Prague Castle Archaeological

Take a walk through the underground of Prague Castle!

A mobile app will guide you through the places hidden from the public, allowing you to visit the oldest archaeological sites of Prague Castle from your living room.

Only the most dedicated experts know that under the buildings and courtyards of Prague Castle there are several thousand square metres of archaeological complexes hiding fragments of buildings from the 9th century to the second half of the 16th century, now mostly covered by unique reinforced concrete structures.

More than 150 years of archaeological research at Prague Castle has left behind a completely new perspective on the history of this important settlement, as well as a large number of monuments that are still preserved in many places in the castle area. Fragments of older buildings and terrains trace the complex construction development of the Castle, but due to their fragile condition they remain inaccessible to the public today.

Therefore, the main task of the application is to make these monuments accessible to as wide a public as possible and thus protect them from the negative influence of tourist traffic.

App

The app is based on 3D scans of the current state of the excavations, which are embedded with points with more detailed information about the visible remains of the structures, including the history of their research. It also includes three-dimensional architectural models documenting the real form of the buildings and their evolution over the centuries.
